Three key rivers mix the region and they're the Rother, Dearne and Don.

Like all of Yorkshire there's tons of intrigue, folklore and rich history attached to what used to be regarded as being a part of Yorkshire famous for its heavy industry, particularly the steel foundrys of Sheffield and furthermore coal mining.

Pre historic remains including a Mesolithic " house" - a group of rocks in the structure of the hut base dating back-to 8000 BC, were discovered at Deepcar in north Sheffield.

Throughout the 19th century Sheffield grew up around and attained a reputation world wide for producing metal. Two of-the Sheffield metal industry innovations were crucible and stainless steel. Coal mining was also another significant industry. Now - a - days both long gone.

Anybody old enough (like me) to recall the films " The full Monty" and " Brassed off " nonetheless two of my all-time favourites will realize the struggle the folk of west and South Yorkshire survived during the time of these closures, along with the humour and pathos, not to mention true grit and determination to pick themselves up and can get on with life. Were nowt if not hardy buggers in Yorkshire.

The twenty-first century found many changes following the lean times when both of these important businesses shut their doors for the last time.

Today Sheffield has been completely redeveloped and is mentioned for its varied culture, art, entertainment, shopping facilities, nightlife. And the continuous increase of its own economy.

Of course there are pointers of Sheffields once mighty industrial past, and Tourist attractions include the Abbeydale industrial hamlet. A unique 18th century industrial works boasting the only enduring, undamaged crucible furnace in the world.

If you have a bit of a desire on theres also the Sheffield brewery company, where you can take a visit of the functions and learn how cask beers are made before sampling a decrease of real beer in the newly installed bar.

Just in case you think Sheffield too industrial for your flavor, you may always escape to-the wonderful somerset accommodation (http://support.borinquenhealth.org/) places available.

And, seemingly Sheffield has the highest percentage of trees to people of any city in Europe. Perhaps its time-to change the title from steel city to green city!!

By the way... Joe Cocker, the singer with-the voice comes from Sheffield also.

Sheffields Two Cathedrals
Saints Peter And Paul Cathedral - Chapel of England

The sight of the current cathedral has been connected with worship and Religious use. The first Sheffield parish church was constructed here in the twelfth century. However this church was razed to-the ground in 1266 during the second barons war against Henry 111. Another parish chapel was accomplished in 1280 but was mostly demolished and rebuilt in

1430. Throughout the following centurys modifications and additions were made like the Shrewsbury chapel and the chapel of St Katherine.

The cathedral has 13 alarms in complete, for change buzzing. Thurs night is training night for those ringtones and of course the bells are rung every Sunday prior to the support begins.

Two intriguing and outstanding attributes of Saints Peter and Pauls cathedral are the lantern tower and the display of bayonets and swords in St Georges chapel.

Cathedral Church Of St Marie - Roman Catholic

This Cathedral Church stands in a rather less prominent place than saints Philip and Pauls, however a sizable spire alerts you to its existence.

During the catholic emancipation during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Catholics were permitted to worship more openly, and so Sheffields Catholic believers bought an old house and assembled a place of worship in the garden.

Doncaster
Doncaster or " Donny" as its known to locals, is created on a Roman fort constructed in the 1st century AD at-a bridging point on the river Don.

In-the early 12th century Doncaster became a possession of " The Kingdom of Scotland" as part of the treaty of Durham, and the transport is thought never to have been formally corrected.

Well Ill go tfoot of rstairs (Yorkshire talk for Im truly astonished) And there was I convinced Donny was as Yorkshire as and, puddings parkin!!!

Doncaster became a busy town in the twelfth century and was given national recognition using a town charter.

Some of the old buildings and area of the market stay now. But Donny has kept speed with an international airport, modern living boasting new architecture, and also the education city campus. The biggest education expense of its type in-the United Kingdom.

Gardens and Brodsworth Hall
Situated 5 kilometers north west of Doncaster. Brodsworth hall is one of the very most complete and practically unchanged Victorian country houses in Britain.

The last resident of the corridor was Sylvia Grant Dalton. Her late husband had struggled a losing battle for 5-7 years before his death against subsidence by coal exploration and also a leaking roof.

When British Heritage took over-the hall in 1988 following Sylvias passing they determined to conserve the inside " as found" rather than changing and repairing. This makes the corridor unique in lots of ways because possessions that required over 130 years to gather still stay and include grand pieces of furniture along with the humblest of household domestic items.

The Victorian gardens have been restored, along with the hall now boasts tea areas, a childrens play area, Illuminated night time garden tours, and for members only, enlightening garden tours conducted by the halls head gardener. As well as other attractions such as shows and traditional car events.

There are also group concerts on Saturday afternoons, featuring some of Yorkshires top brass bands. In case you love music, you haven't lived until you hear a proper Yorkshire brass band.it will blow your socks off. Yorkshire is famous for the character of its own brass musicians and I can guarantee you wont regret spending the entrance fee once you hear these women and men perform. On Brodsworth halls website it recommends you take a folding chair and a picnic along with you, for those concerts its a good hotel.

For those interested in the supernatural. The hall is said to be haunted by a ginger cat, and former residents. The village chapel " All Saints" which was built by Sylivias husbands family, is noted to be haunted by two elderly women dressed in period clothing, who method the entry to the church. Their footsteps can be noticed, but then quit suddenly when the women dissapear into nothing!!
